Messages of Support

Actress Selma Blair, who has been open about her own multiple sclerosis diagnosis, responded to Doherty’s post, expressing her empathy and offering heartfelt support during this difficult time. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Doherty’s co-star in “Cruel Intentions,” referred to her as a warrior, acknowledging her strength in the face of adversity. Personal Life Updates

Aside from her health battle, Doherty also experienced significant personal changes. In April, the 52-year-old actress filed for divorce from her husband of 11 years, photographer Kurt Iswarienko. Doherty’s representative confirmed the divorce, emphasizing that she did not want the divorce but felt compelled to make the decision.

Previous Cancer Revelation

Doherty had previously shared her cancer journey in a 2020 interview on “Good Morning America.” Although she did not disclose the specific type of cancer, she acknowledged that it was a recurrence. The decision to make her diagnosis public stemmed from an ongoing legal dispute with State Farm regarding expenses she had to personally cover after her home suffered severe damage in the 2018 Woolsey fire. Doherty wanted to preemptively address her cancer, as legal documents referencing her condition were about to be made available to the public. In 2021, she emerged victorious in her lawsuit against the insurance company, with a federal jury in Los Angeles awarding her $6.3 million.
