Official Announcement

In an official statement, it was announced, “Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Ernest was born on Tuesday, 30th May, and weighed 7lbs 1oz.”

The Name

To commemorate this special moment, Princess Eugenie took to Instagram on Monday, sharing the first photos of their newborn and revealing the story behind his name.

“Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank on 30th May 2023 at 8.49 weighing 7.1lbs. He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald. Augie is loving being a big brother already.”

The middle names of Ernest hold significance as they honor the memory of Queen Elizabeth’s grandfather, King George V, Jack’s father George, and Eugenie’s maternal grandfather Ronald, who happens to be the father of her mother, Sarah Ferguson.

Line of Succession and Family

With his arrival, the newborn is 13th in line to the British throne, directly following his older brother August. Additionally, Ernest is the first great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth to be born after her passing in September. He also becomes the third grandchild of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

The Duke and Duchess of York, who were divorced in 1996 but maintain a close relationship, are already proud grandparents to August and Princess Beatrice’s one-year-old daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, who shares her parents with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Edo is also a father to his son Christopher Woolf from a previous relationship with Dara Huang.

Fergie’s Perspective

In a recent interview with PEOPLE about her latest historical fiction novel, “A Most Intriguing Lady,” the Duchess of York, affectionately known as Fergie, expressed her joy as a grandmother. She said, “One, I’m really proud of my girls. Two, I have very good grandchildren. They just follow me around like Peter Pan. I’m ‘Super Gran Pan.’ Whenever they see me, they laugh. They think I’m very funny. August is teaching me about trains. My girls had Barbie dolls.”
