Star Jenna Ortega
The 20-year-old actress, is reportedly in talks to star in the sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ortega may be portraying Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the film. Winona Ryder played the role of Lydia Deetz in the original.
Although Michael Keaton is expected to return as the titular character, there is no word on whether other original stars such as Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara, Geena Davis, and Jeffrey Jones will make an appearance.
The movie is scheduled to start production in May or June in London, but the budget is still undecided, so there are negotiations between the studio and production. Neither Ortega nor Warner Bros. has commented on the casting rumors. Ortega is hosting Saturday Night Live this week and starring in the upcoming Scream VI, which is expected to break records with an estimated opening of $35 million. Check out DailyMail.com
The original Beetlejuice was the second film directed by Tim Burton after Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in 1985. The movie tells the story of a couple who dies and summons the spirit of Beetlejuice to scare off the new family that moved into their home. The film grossed $80 million worldwide and won an Oscar for Best Makeup.
The sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian
was first announced in 1990 and has gone through many rewrites and screenwriters over the years. In 2011, Seth Grahame-Smith, who worked with Burton on Dark Shadows, was brought on to write the script. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment is producing the sequel, and Keaton and Ryder are returning. Burton directed Ortega in four episodes of Netflix’s Wednesday, which was renewed for a second season.
